Computer Memory (RAM)

If you are planning on playing games, get at least 1GB of RAM (Random Access Memory). This will be sufficient for 99% of today's games. And even if you are not, it is a good choice to get at least 1GB of RAM. Today's applications have very high system requirements, and 1GB of RAM should be a minimum amount of memory you should get. For example, a lot of time when I work on the computer, I would have word open, windows media player, photoshop, 4-5 IE windows, windows explorer, etc. and 512 MB of memory just cannot handle that.

If you have extra money get 2GB of memory, which will be enough even for the games to come, and for the upcoming operating system from Microsoft, Windows Vista.

Some people recommend purchasing a brand name RAM, however, I really don't have any strong opinion on this issue. I have never used a brand name RAM, and also never had any problems with generic RAM. If the price of brand name and generic memory is close, opt for a brand name memory by any means. If the difference is substantial, feel free to get a generic RAM, however, make sure that it has a warranty. If you decide to get a brand name memory, Kingston is always a good choice.

Memory is very important part if you are planning on playing games. The game frame rate will very much depend on the memory. Not so much on the speed, but mostly on the amount of memory that your computer has. There is nothing worse than having a hard disk constantly swapping during gameplay, because of the lack of memory.
